EMV liability shift is approaching (October 2015) and merchants have more and more questions concerning EMV certification. EMV technology and P2PE technology are often mixed up. Can these two technologies replace each other? Should they be used together? Or can they be used separately? Let’s find answers to these questions.
Usually EMV technology is not used without P2PE while it provides the additional protection when payments are processed. But sometimes there are businesses which choose to use P2PE only without EMV. Businesses with comparatively low credit card fraud level (e.g. hotel networks) may choose to use P2PE in case when they have a swiper based on P2PE and they do not want to invest extra funds into EMV terminals.
What do you think, is it a reasonable solution to use P2PE technology and not to use an EMV terminal? What will you choose for your business? Some additional information on this issue is provided in the publication at #UniPayGateway.
